MARPLE-NEWTOWN SCHOOLS INVOLVED IN IC4NS STEM GRANTS
Last October '08, IC4NS announced a two phase Educational Initiative and selected 4 area schools to pilot and test Data Literacy and Visual Learning software (InspireData and Kidspiration) from Inspiration, Inc. & SLOOH.   By focusing on value added applications to help improve math skills and to motivate a desire to learn more about math and science, the IC4NS approach is designed to add value without interfering with existing curriculums and to cultivate a stronger interest for students to consider a Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) or Social Science (SS) career during grade school and high school.

Based on information provided at a Lessons Learned meeting on July 22, 2009 among IC4NS, Marple Newtown School District (MNSD), St. Anastasia, and the Delaware County Christian School (DCCS) and discussions thereafter, the initiative has been expanded to included Vernier hardware devices and monitoring/analylsis software for STEM laboratory investigations.  This educational initiative is completely consistent with President Obama's STEM objectives and his educational goals for the nation.

OUR CONCERNS

This web site offers something for all who are concerned about Newtown Township with regard to major current, proposed, and future development of property along with loss of our assets, character, and our protections of them. Just as important, the website offers something for all concerned about the education of our children and how our taxes are used to support it.

There are different levels of membership (memberships) because an individual might be:
(1) interested in just the non-password protected information provided on the website, or
(2) interested in some mix of non-password and password services provided by the website, or
(3) part of a private industry group that may be interested in: (a) ensuring that our schools are teaching and developing skills in our high school students that eliminate the need to retrain them after graduation; and, (b) possibly contributing tutoring or other training services or equipment, software, hardware, network/internet support or scholarships or funding to our schools.

OUR DEVELOPMENT VALUES

Vigorously oppose development that would:
  • ZONING - Be inconsistent with the character of the surrounding zoning land areas
  • TRAFFIC - Substantially increase traffic congestion on streets to such a high degree of probability that it will adversely affect the health, safety and welfare of the community
  • PROPERTY VALUES - Be detrimental to other properties in the area
  • OPEN SPACE/DENSITY - Overcrowd the land or create and undue congestion of population
  • PUBLIC SYSTEM IMPACTS - Substantially burden the transportation, water, sewers, groundwater, school, parks and other facilities; and/or otherwise adversely affect the public health, safety, morals or public welfare
  • TRAFFIC - Substantially increase traffic congestion on streets to such a high degree of probability that it will adversely affect the health, safety and welfare of the community
  • WATER QUANTITY/QUALITY - Adversely affect the quantity/quality of our water bodies, groundwater, and water supply
  • STORMWATER MANAGEMENT- Impair stormwater controls, create undue amount of impervious surfaces, or cause soil erosion
  • AIR QUALITY - Impair the health, safety, and welfare of individuals and residents due to an adequate supply of clean air and adequate light to adjacent and nearby property
  • NOISE - Impair the health, safety, and welfare of the individuals and residents in adjacent and nearby properties
  • PARKING - Adversely affect off-street parking
  • IDENTITY - Affect the character of the immediate neighborhood by failing to conserve the values of existing buildings not encourage the most appropriate use of the land
  • AESTHETICS - Fail to provide architecture of buildings and surrounding impervious surfaces in harmony with existing character of the Township

OUR VISION Making the invisible visible: do you see what I see?®

Often what is not said is more important than what is said. This is also true when one point of view illuminates a deeper level of understanding than that of another seemingly equivalent point of view initially. Therefore, this web site will provide insights into how important problems and issues may be perceived when looked upon from different perspectives from the viewpoints of various individuals and residents. These perspectives will explore various aspects of major concerns regarding land development and education issues(s): goals, objectives, and policies; data and information available; emotional components; pros and cons aspects.  When viewed from these different lenses  or filters and thought about collectively from many, if not all, the individuals concerned for Newtown Square, our rights (and not just the rights of the developers and other groups) can be preserved or at least rationally addressed.  From this collaboration and discussion practical, innovative, and creative solutions can be developed and proposed to eliminate, resolve, or at least mitigate the impacts and costs to our many public service systems including schools as well as our taxes.

OUR MISSION

Connecting the dots.

There are many relationships that can be defined among the various data and informational items relevant to the issue(s)or problem(s) being considered.  While the web site will provide a case for the relationships it espouses, the intent is to provide data and informational sources from which individuals concerned for Newtown Square can not only evaluate the position espoused by the web site but can also determine their own position from a common set of accurate, timely data and information that will be available to all.

OUR GOALS

Use this website to provide a dynamic example of our civic responsibility to ourselves, our families, our neighbors, other townships, and other citizens of this great country – THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
